We’re having a tad of a cold front, which is no surprise, our Winter is here.  Not as cold as else where in the World where Winter brings snow, but accustomed to mostly hot climates during the year in SA, winter is surely cold enough for us.  On Friday I bought a vast amount of soup veggies from our Green Grocer on the corner and yesterday our home smelt of delicious, yummy My Veggie Soup!  I keep cooking soup a simply passed on homely tradition.  My dear Arthur yearns for meat on soup days (I do not add meat of any sorts to my soup!) and he solemnly swears that my soup gives his metabolism a jump start, which goes to show its holy healthy.  I cut veggies into chunks, fry it in a bit of oil for minutes, add loads of onions and skinned tomatoes, Worcester Sauce, our brilliant SA Mrs Balls Chutney, bring the Soup to boil for 10 minutes and then let it simmer for hours.  The smell has my clan wishing hours away!  Then voila, they literally polish the huge pot of soup in no time.  I took this photo when soup was just served and look, half a pot near gone.  In our home I merely serve some fresh rolls with this soup and it hits those taste buds fashionably.

I don’t know about all of you, but I do feel the economical strain.    This winter there is   no expensive visits to local nurseries.  We bought packets of Sweet Pea seeds and we plonked them into all the pots in our garden that look like they’ve got some space.  We’re over the moon happy with the results and the Sweet Peas are starting to rank all over the place.  Just lovely.

This last week Megan, Miss E, a dear friend and I made a quick turn at a friend who owns a Tea Garden and Craft Business.  He has empowered many people teaching them some wire and material crafts which he then runs around selling all over SA Craft Markets.  When we got there, this dear Teddy has been one of their newly home made with love Craft goodies.  It had to come home with us.  He doesn’t charge an arm and a leg for the crafts and thing is I am always bowled over when there is job creation and entrepreneurial efforts involved and I duly support such endeavours.  As much as I like the look of big Decor Stores and their “made to perfectly expensive standards’ furniture and decorative items” I prefer seeing the people busy creating and finishing these items and then love the fact that it truly makes a difference in their lives, financially and emotionally.  We need to support local craftspeople on an ongoing basis.  It is valuable.

Just love the detail.  Look at the buttons on the ears and the heartfelt nose!  Love our newly found Teddy too bits.

Aah today has been a very busy Quilters visiting day in this Quilt Room.  First this morning went off with Arthur as Miss E wanted both her parents taking her to school.  So lovely.  We decided afterwards to make a quick turn at the possibly one and only Green Grocer on the corner still in our City (at which I love love to buy our veggies and fruits!) and then only returned home after which Arthur had to hurry off to the big City two hours away for a meeting.
I thought I will spend most of the morning stitching before picking up Miss E from school but My Quilt Room had some other plans.  We had plenty visitors.  Up until now its been friends in and out.  Warm pots of tea all the time.  A great day.  On turning to the e mails and posts,  I had received a link from a dear friend and oopsy daisy I’ve now visited a very far off Quilter for hours.  Blogs are so good, but I sort of get carried away, do not read just two or four posts, I read the complete blog from now till its beginning.  Aah and I zoom in on the beautiful Quilts and decor ideas and get so inspired.  What happened today was that I saw an antique headboard hung up and used to fold Quilts over.  Then I remembered but we do have one of those and off to the store room and get it out, dusting and cleaning it and thought this will look quite dear with some of the Mini Quilts folded over it.  But where to put it?  Hanging it up isn’t really an option for me because our old home was built in the early 1900’s and with lots of sand and few bricks … it will be too heavy!  But it can stand somewhere and for it I will soon find a good place.  Look how lovely it looks though with some of the little old Quilts!
Then I got back to the computer and decided no, no, no, I will take photos, blog and get off here quick.
Thing is too many hours can be spent reading blogs, looking on Pinterest,  so now I will be done again for weeks.  But thank you it was a wonderful outing and refreshing gardening ideas, inspiring Quilts and lifestyle, simply lovely.
I will go sit a while and stitch on the beautiful bag before its My Quilt Room’s quiet and reading time.

Dear Readers, so reblogging this, as it is a wonderful idea to add to your Quilted and home made home treasures!

For Mari!  Pictures out of my old books in which I collected pages from magazines inspiring features which I wished to add to our home one day.  It hasn’t all turned out exactly as in my dreams and wishes, but never in vain do I collect ideas and inspirations.  These specific pages are for a honeypot of a friend of My Quilt Room, and my wishes for her those that I will have had for a little sister,  and these are my gardening dreams for her.  An old chair with a huge enamel bowl overflowing with Peace in the Home, and the other, an absolute gorgeously, lovely, unique water feature.  I love love love the antique water tap used in this feature and the watercress growing in the old pottery pot,  all a beautiful part of this seemingly natural enamel feature nestled into a wall.
